Capitals 4, Blue Jackets 0

COLUMBUS

Alex Ovechkin scored his NHL-leading 22nd goal and Braden Holtby got his 34th career shutout as the Washington Capitals beat the Columbus Blue Jackets. Travis Boyd had a goal and an assist, and Brett Connolly and Dmitrij Jaskin also scored for the defending Stanley Cup champions. Holtby finished with 28 saves.

Flyers 6, Sabres 2

BUFFALO, N.Y.

Claude Giroux had a goal and three assists to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a victory over the Buffalo Sabres. James van Riemsdyk added a goal and an assist for the Flyers opened a five-game road trip. Ivan Provorov, Wayne Simmonds, Dale Weise and Travis Konecny also scored, Michael Raffl had two assists and Anthony Stolarz made 28 saves. Jack Eichel scored twice for the Sabres. Linus Ullmark stopped 34 shots.

Kings 5, Golden Knights 1

LOS ANGELES

Derek Forbort had a goal and an assist, Jonathan Quick made 29 saves and the Los Angeles Kings defeated the Vegas Golden Knights. Oscar Lindberg scored for Vegas before Los Angeles got goals from Nikita Scherbak, Matt Luff, Jeff Carter, Forbort and Nate Thompson. Jake Muzzin had two assists. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 20 shots for Vegas.

Bruins 6, Maple Leafs 3

BOSTON

David Krejci had a goal and assist to move past Hall of Famer Cam Neely for 10th on the Bruins’ all-time scoring list, and Boston snapped a three-game losing streak with a win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson, David Backes, Ryan Donato, Torey Krug and Danton Heinen also scored for the Bruins. Jaroslav Halak stopped 29 shots. Auston Matthews, Travis Dermott and Andreas Johnsson each had a goal.

Islanders 3, Red Wings 2

DETROIT

Matt Martin scored a tiebreaking goal with 16:36 remaining in the third period, capping an impressive comeback for the New York Islanders in a victory over the Detroit Red Wings. The Islanders trailed 2-0 after the first period but rallied with goals by Casey Cizikas, Ryan Pulock and Martin. Justin Abdelkader and Niklas Kronwall scored for Detroit.

Lightning 7, Avalanche 1

TAMPA, FLA.

Steven Stamkos had two goals and two assists as the NHL-leading Tampa Bay Lightning won their sixth consecutive game, beating the Colorado Avalanche. Stamkos scored twice in the first period and had two second-period assists. Tampa Bay also got two goals from Ondrej Palat, and Louis Domingue made 29 saves. Tyler Johnson, Alex Killorn and Anthony Cirelli had the other Lightning goals. Nathan MacKinnon had a goal for the Avalanche.

Rangers 5, Panthers 4, SO

SUNRISE, FLA.

Kevin Hayes had the game-deciding goal in the third round of the shootout, giving the New York Rangers a win over the Florida Panthers. Hayes also had a pair of assists. Mika Zibanejad, Vladislav Namestnikov, Matt Beleskey and Fredric Claesson scored for the Rangers. Keith Yandle, Huberdeau, Aaron Ekblad and Aleksander Barkov had goals for the Panthers. Huberdeau added a pair of assists. New York’s Henrik Lundqvist had 27 saves, and Roberto Luongo finished with 22.

Sharks 5, Coyotes 3

GLENDALE, ARIZ.

Lukas Radil’s first NHL goal broke a tie with 5:47 to play and the San Jose Sharks beat the Arizona Coyotes. Radil scored on a backhand wrapround shot as the Sharks blew a 3-0 lead but got their third win in four games. Joe Pavelski, Logan Couture, Evander Kane and Tomas Hertl also scored for San Jose. Aaron Dell stopped 17 shots. Brad Richardson had a goal and assist, and Nick Schmaltz and Richard Panik also scored for Arizona. Adin Hill made 28 saves.
