What: Public program and ceremony to honor our veterans at the North Jackson Cemetery. Family members are invited to place wreaths on their loved ones’ graves first.

Holiday Arrangement
When: Sunday, 2-4 p.m.
What: We’ll use natural plant materials to create unique arrangements for holiday tables. All materials provided, but bring any special items you want to add.

Hike with a Naturalist
When: Sunday, 1-3 p.m.
What: Enjoy an afternoon hike through fields and forest with naturalist Bill Gilmour.
Where: McGuffey Wildlife Preserve, 4448 McGuffey Road, Coitsville.

Details: Moderate difficulty, 1 mile.

Tales for Tots - The Snow Tree
When: Friday, 10-11a.m.
What: We’ll read and enact a holiday favorite, “The Snow Tree” by Caroline Repchuk. Outside discovery and a craft are part of the festivities.
Where: Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave., Youngstown.
Cost: $4 for Mahoning County residents, $6 NR.
Details: For kids age 2 to 3 plus adult. Register/pay at Ford Nature Center by Wednesday.

Geminid Meteor Shower
When: Friday, 9-11p.m.
What: Join naturalist Arika Preas on a short hike to enjoy this annual meteor shower.
Where: Vickers Nature Preserve, 9260 Akron-Canfield Road, Ellsworth.
Cost: Free
Details: Dress warm; wear boots, as it might be muddy. Flashlights suggested, but only red lights.

Bird Banding with Al Eibel
When: Dec. 16, 10 a.m.-noon.
What: See live songbirds and science in action during a bird banding demonstration with licensed bird bander Al Eibel.

Cost: Free
Details: Canceled in the event of rain, snow or temperatures below 20 degrees.

Winter Night Hike
When: Dec. 22, 7-9 p.m.
What: Celebrate one of the longest nights of the year with a quiet, self-guided luminary walk or guided night hike through the woods under a full moon.
