Holiday craft show

BROOKFIELD

Craft artists from across the area will exhibit and sell their work at the fourth annual Christmas in the Country Craft Show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Brookfield High School. A Christmas theater production will be incorporated as part of the festivities at 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. Both the craft show and play are free and open to the public, but donations will be accepted to benefit the Brookfield Drama Club. Visitors will have a chance to visit with Santa (and get their picture taken for a small fee), listen to live carolers, enter for a chance to win a large gift basket containing items from several vendors and participate in a basket raffle. There will be a concession stand and a sip ’n paint from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants must be pre-registered. Proceeds benefit the Brookfield Drama Club. Breakfast with Santa

YOUNGSTOWN

Mill Creek MetroParks will host Breakfast with Santa at Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave., from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Children will be able to take photos with Santa and participate in holiday activities. Pre-registration is required by calling 330-740-7116. Cost is $16 for children 12 and older; $10.50 for children 2 to 11 and free for children younger than 2. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Library to host lecture

Rick Shale will present “The History of Idora Park” at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Boardman Library, 7680 Glenwood Ave. His lecture is sponsored by the Boardman Historical Society and is free. Reservations are suggested by calling Dona Hammond at 330-726-0651.

Book signings

Barnes and Noble, 381 Boardman Poland Road, will host a book signing from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Local author Roslyn Torella will present a short talk about her book “Lowellville, Ohio: Murders, Mayhem & More,” followed by the signing. A similar event is set for that evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ross’ Market, 30 E. Liberty St., Lowellville. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.

Christmas event set

HOWLAND

Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital, 8747 Squires Lane NE, will host its “Christmas at Hillside” event from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

There will be a children’s craft table, more than 20 raffle baskets, musical entertainment by “Firmly Grounded” and refreshments will be available. Employees and community members have donated and decorated 28 Christmas trees and 40 wreaths that are on display and will be included in the raffle. Raffle tickets are available for purchase in the main lobby at the reception desk and the outpatient therapy desk. Tickets are $1 each; $5 for six; or $10 for 13. Winning tickets will be drawn Jan. 2. Raffle tickets will be for sale from noon to 1 p.m., today and Monday at Hillside in the cafeteria. Winning tickets will be drawn Monday. Winners need not be present. Proceeds will benefit the American Heart/American Stroke Association. The event is free and open to the public.

Sojourner House receives grant

YOUNGSTOWN

Sojourner House in Youngstown was one of 150 domestic violence shelters that recently received a $20,000 grant from The Mary Kay Foundation, in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. It is an unrestricted grant to support local survivors of domestic violence in Mahoning County.

In the past year, Sojourner has served over 1,000 individuals, including children, internally and externally through shelter services, judicial advocacy, crisis intervention, counseling and the crisis hotline.

Society invites public to December meeting

The Salem Historical Society is inviting the public to its Christmas celebration meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the meeting room of the Dale Shaffer Library, 239 S. Lundy Ave. There will be selections from “Annie” and a carol sing-along by Salem Community Theatre.
