Autism Society sponsoring giveaway

The Autism Society of Mahoning Valley is sponsoring a ticket giveaway for a performance of “The Nutcracker,” which will take place at Pittsburgh’s Benedum Center at 2 p.m. Dec. 27.

The contest includes four tickets and $20 for parking. These performances are sensory-friendly in a supportive environment. The drawing will take place Dec. 6 through Facebook Live and the deadline to apply is Dec. 4 at noon.

Only one online submission per family permitted. Families participating should have one member with a diagnosis of autism and live in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties. Open to children or adults.

Library to offer career-skills classes

Free technology classes and one-on-one instruction are now available at Salem Public Library through a Guiding Ohio Online Grant provided, in part, by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the State Library of Ohio.

On Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m. the program “The Resume” will focus on how to create a well thought out resume. Technology instructor Stephanie Peterson will guide the class with strategies and tips to use in the development of a personal resume.

If possible, participants are asked to take a laptop, tablet and/or a jump drive.

The class will meet in the library’s Quaker Room, 821 E. State St. Seating is limited and registration is required online at www.salem.lib.oh.us or by calling the library at 330-332-0042 for assistance.

This class is open to the public and free of cost.

Program on birds planned at library

Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will host a talk at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Jeff Harvey of the Mahoning Valley Audubon Society and Wild Birds Unlimited will teach attendees how to properly feed and provide water for wild birds during winter.

Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will host a class on creating digital cards at 2 p.m. Thursday in the library’s Quaker Room.

The class will be taught by Kathy Bennett. If available, participants should take a laptop, tablet and/or a jump drive.
