Local dance studio wins big at national championships

Only three dancers from each age category earn the chance to dance for the title of Miss Dance America. Hannah Lintner (left), from Austintown, earned a Revolutionary Award, first place in her category, second overall high score and first runner-up to Mini Miss Dance America. Ava Briceland (right), from Boardman, earned a Revolutionary Award, first place in her category and third place overall. Epic Dance Complex of Canfield competed at the Revolution National Talent Competition June 24-28 in Pensacola, Fla.

EPIC brought home two prestigious Victory Cups, a Premier Cup and a national title.

In the age 8 and younger category, the routine titled “Blue” placed first in their category, and first place overall high score. The routine titled “Hero” placed first overall high score in the national finals “Battle of the Champions.” EPIC secured the win in the Mini Division by re-competing “Blue” in the “Battle of the Champions,” earned a Revolutionary Award (near perfect score), first place overall high score and the Victory Cup trophy. The Victory Cup champion represents the highest scoring group of the entire competition. This routine was choreographed by Tommy Porter of Canfield.

In the age 12 and older category, the production routine titled “Oh My Gaga” placed first in their category, and first place overall high score. They earned a spot in the “Battle of the Champions” National Finals, and brought home the age 12 and older Grand Line Victory Cup. This routine was choreographed by Porter and JoEllen Mrofchak of Poland.

In the age 15-19 category, the small group titled “P.Y.T” won second overall, and earned a spot to re-compete in Revolution’s “Battle of the Champions.” The group of seven girls from EPIC came from behind to win first place overall high score, and brought home the Premier Cup. There is only one Premier Cup given, and it represents the highest scoring intermediate routine at the National Finals. This routine was choreographed by Mrofchak.

Ava Briceland of Boardman earned a Revolutionary Award, first place in her category and third place overall. Nine-year-old Briceland came from behind in the National Title Pageant, and out-scored two 12-year-olds to be crowned Junior Miss Dance America. Hannah Lintner of Austintown earned a Revolutionary Award, first place in her category, second overall high score and first runner-up to Mini Miss Dance America.

Several other students placed as soloists representing Epic Dance Complex, including Jeralynn Rudiak (fourth), Aidyn Connolly (nineth, Austintown), Desiree Girardi (fifth, Boardman), Madeline Krasnasky (fourth, Boardman), Miah Mihalick (15th, Austintown), Taylor Morgan (12th, Canfield) and Kelsey Hackstedde (tenth, Poland).

EPIC brought home nine National Championships in their respective divisions. The routines titled “Hero,” “Boss,” “Blue,” “Never Enough,” “Oh My Gaga,” “Amazing Mayzie,” “Feeling Free,” “Proud Mary,” “1440” and “PYT” all won first place, overall high score, and competed again in the “Battle of the Champions.”
