With construction under way to create the state-of-the-art Don Constantini Multimedia Center, the Youngstown State athletic department has announced that the East Side seating sections of Stambaugh Stadium will be closed for 2018.

Upon completion of the Constantini Center next spring, the side will be re-open for the 2019 campaign.

Fans who normally use those seats will be moved to the West Side of the complex this fall. The Marching Pride will be in Section 1 while the YSU students will be in Section 2.

There will be no parking on the grass behind the East Side, an area that is normally reserved for handicapped parking. This year, handicapped permits will be honored at the M-30 and M-60 decks and fans can take shuttles to the stadium starting 90 minutes prior to kickoff. The shuttles will be available during and after all games.

Liberty, Lakeview vie for Air Force Trophy

LIBERTY

The Lakeview and Liberty football teams will battle for the rotating Air Force Trophy on Friday at 7 p.m. at Leopard Stadium.

Both bands will play military tributes. Liberty graduates Ty Leshnak and Shon Haydu, Air Force recruits, will participate in game festivities. Sgt. Brandon Poturica will assist the Liberty band.

Military personnel past and present are invited as guests with appropriate identification. Tickets for the game are on sale at Liberty High School.

YSU volleyball falls to Kent State in 4 sets

The Youngstown State volleyball team lost its first game under head coach Aline Scott. The Penguins fell to Kent State 25-22, 16-25, 20-25, 23-25 in Kent on Tuesday.

Western Reserve graduate Aleah Hughes led the Penguins (3-1) with 20 kills and 201/2 points. Giovanna Kuntze had a team-high 23 assists.

After Tuesday’s loss the Penguins are 4-19 all time against the Golden Flashes.

The Penguins will play UNLV and Bowling Green on Friday at the Duquesne Invitational. The UNLV game is scheduled for 1 p.m with Bowling Green beginning at 5 p.m.

Eagles will announce QB prior to first game

PHILADELPHIA

Eagles coach Doug Pederson says he probably won’t reveal whether Carson Wentz or Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles will start the season opener until 90 minutes before the game.

Wentz has been recovering from surgery last December to repair a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee. He is practicing, but hasn’t been medically cleared for contact.

Foles struggled in two preseason games and won’t play Thursday night against the New York Jets. The offense didn’t score any points on 14 drives with Foles under center in the preseason. However, he was missing nearly all starters at the skill positions.

Pederson indicated he would make a decision Friday, but doesn’t plan to disclose which quarterback will line up when Philadelphia hosts the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 6 until game day.

Brodeur resigns as Blues assistant GM

ST. LOUIS

Martin Brodeur is leaving the St. Louis Blues after spending the past three years as assistant general manager.

The team says Brodeur is departing to pursue other opportunities.

Brodeur has worked in management with Hockey Canada in recent years. The NHL’s all-time leader in goaltending wins has connections to two Eastern Conference teams: the New Jersey Devils, where he won three Stanley Cup championships, and the New York Islanders, who have longtime Devils GM Lou Lamoriello in charge of hockey operations.

The Blues promoted director of amateur scouting Bill Armstrong to assistant GM.
