Crosscutters shutout Scrappers

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers managed only two hits in their 8-0 loss to the Williamsport Crosscutters on Tuesday night.

The Scrappers (38-31) were hitless until Jose Fermin’s two-out double in the top of the sixth inning. Jason Rodriguez was the only other Scrapper to record a hit.

Rafael Marchan gave the Crosscutters a 1-0 lead with an RBI groundout in the third.

Williamsport (30-40) increased the lead to 5-0 in the fifth with RBI singles by Lenin Rodriguez, Ben Pelletier and Jake Holmes. Johnathan Guzman drove in a run on a groundout double play.

Scrappers starter Yeffersson Yannuzzi lasted four innings. He pitched into the fifth but was pulled after he loaded the bases to begin the inning.

Yannuzzi allowed three runs on four hits and three walk while striking out four.

The Auburn Doubledays beat the West Virginia Black Bears 8-4. After the loss, the Scrappers lead the Doubledays by 1 1/2 games in the Pinckney Division with six games remaining.

The Scrappers will head back to Eastwood Field for their final home series of the season. Mahoning Valley will play the Batavia Muckdogs today at 7:05.
