Tickets may be purchased at the Cardinals Nest today through Friday. Prices are: $8 for reserved; $7 of general admission; and $4 for students. Only reserved and general admission tickets will be available at the gate.

Fitch/Erie football tickets to be sold

Pre-sale tickets for the Austintown Fitch home football game against Erie this Friday will be sold on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. in the South Circle Ticket Booth.

There also are tickets available at Aardvark Sportswear, 5329 Mahoning Ave. Aardvark will close Friday at 1 p.m. Kick-off is at 7:30 p.m.

High Court grants stay in OHSAA CB case

The Ohio Supreme Court announced Monday that it was granting OHSAA’s motion for emergency stay of enforcement of a temporary restraining order (TRO) issued Aug. 15 by Judge Robert P. Ruehlman in Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas.

The Ohio Supreme Court further stayed all proceedings in the Hamilton County action while it considers the merits of OHSAA’s Supreme Court complaint. The TRO was regarding a component of the OHSAA’s Competitive Balance process as it applies specifically to Roger Bacon High School and the other seven members of the Greater Catholic League Coed Division.

Last Thursday, the OHSAA filed a complaint for a writ of prohibition with the Ohio Supreme Court, contending that Judge Ruehlman does not have jurisdiction to decide the underlying claims against OHSAA, as the OHSAA is a private association and its member schools are volunteer members who vote on their own Bylaws and Constitution.

The hearing scheduled for Tuesday in Hamilton County is now canceled and the Ohio Supreme Court has set a briefing schedule to consider the merits of OHSAA’s Supreme Court complaint. A date has not been set for when the Ohio Supreme Court will make a decision.

Judge Ruehlman’s TRO had prevented the OHSAA from implementing a component of the Competitive Balance formula as it applies specifically to the GCL Coed Division, but the ruling impacted schools throughout Ohio.

The Competitive Balance process determines how schools are assigned to postseason tournament divisions in football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, softball and baseball.

The lawsuit has no effect on regular-season schedules, which are now under way. However, if the OHSAA is not ultimately successful in its appeal, it could require the divisional assignments to be recalculated mid-season.

AP: Beckham, Giants agree to 5-year deal

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.

Odell Beckham Jr. of the New York Giants is now the NFL’s highest-paid wide receiver.

A person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press on Monday the team agreed to a five-year contract extension with the three-time Pro Bowler.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Giants have not announced the deal, which comes less than two weeks before the season opener against Jacksonville.

While terms were not disclosed, the deal with the 25-year-old, 2014 first-rounder is worth about $95 million with $65 million guaranteed.

Beckham’s $19 million average salary would top the $17 million earned by Antonio Brown of the Pittsburgh Steelers. His $95 million deal also tops the $82.5 million deal receiver Mike Evans has with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Beckham, who missed most of last season with a broken left ankle, was scheduled to make $8.4 million in the final year of his rookie contract.

In his first four seasons, Beckham has caught 313 passes for 4,424 yards and 38 touchdowns.
