Senior citizens sought for show

People age 55 and older who have acted professionally or in community theater are invited to audition for a production of “1940s Radio Christmas Carol,” a holiday musical with a Christmas theme, that will be performed Dec. 15 and 16 at Best Western Dutch Haus Inn and Suites.

“We thought it would be an entertaining idea to perform this 1940s musical and to have all of the parts played by local talented seniors,” said Rose Conrad, the show’s producer.

The “1940s Radio Christmas Carol” is a comedy with music by Broadway writer-composer Walton Jones.

It takes place on Christmas Eve 1943 at the Hotel Aberdeen in Newark, N.J., where the Feddington Players are performing “A Christmas Carol” during a live, on-air broadcast over WOV-Radio. When interruptions, technical problems and theatrical missteps threaten to tank the broadcast, the fun begins.

Sprinkled with swing arrangements of Christmas standards and original songs in the period style, the show features familiar as well as original songs of the season.

“The theme of this show and the songs will resonate with not only our core audience but with the performers as well,” said Conrad.

Singing roles are available for seven men and four women, and one role which could be either a male or female. Actors should be comfortable with light choreography.

Auditions will take place at the Inn, 150 E. state Route 14, on Sept. 12, from 2 to 5 p.m., and Sept. 16, from noon to 3 p.m. Audtionees should be prepared to perform a short audition song (no accompaniment required) and read from the script.
