YMCA to honor courage award winner

NEW CASTLE, PA.

The New Castle Community YMCA will honor Joshua Lamancusa with the Jack and Nancy Flannery Salute to Courage Award at 5 p.m. Sept. 27 at The Villa Banquet Center, 2500 New Butler Road. The event is open to the public. The reception will take place at 5, followed by dinner and a program at 6. Tickets are $65 per person or $600 for a table of 10, and may be purchased at the YMCA downtown. Sponsorship opportunities are available.

‘Miracle Makers’ change bandits needed for event

Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley is seeking “Miracle Maker” change bandits to assist with pre-event fundraising activities for the 10th annual Miracles & Promises Radiothon to benefit the hospital. The Radiothon will take place Sept. 27 and 28 from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. each day, and will be broadcast live on Mix 98.9 and 570 WKBN from the hospital’s Beeghly campus in Boardman.

Individuals, families, businesses, schools and civic and community organizations may participate in this program and help raise funds for kids at Akron Children’s. Change bandits can create their own fundraising activities in addition to spare change from co-workers, friends and family. A kit containing a fundraising guide and materials necessary to conduct a change bandit campaign is delivered to all participants, and all donations and change bandits will be recognized during the Radiothon.

Polish Youngstown to host Heritage Day

Polish Youngstown Inc. will sponsor its 10th Annual Polish-American Heritage Day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at St. Anne Catholic Church, 4310 Kirk Road. There will be Polish food, two polka bands, cultural workshops and authentic folk dance performances.

Admission is $5 for adults or free for Youngstown State University students with identification and children 12 and under.
