Caranos celebrate 50th anniversary with dinner

AUSTINTOWN

Mr. and Mrs. Ken Carano recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a family dinner.

The couple’s children are Kenneth (Christine) Carano Jr. and Patricia (Darren) Machuga, all of Canfield; and Marla (Brian) Carano-Honen of Columbus. Their grandchildren, Dominic Carano, Joseph and Vincent Machuga and Julia Honen, complete the family.

Mr. Carano married the former Linda Saadey on June 29, 1968, at the original St. Maron Church on Forest Avenue in Youngstown, and moved to Rochester, N.Y., after honeymooning in Disneyland. Mr. Carano taught at Greece Arcadia High School in Rochester and, a few years later, he accepted a new position at Austintown Fitch High School where he taught and coached for 30 years until he retired.

The Caranos worked together to help finance the Austintown Fitch Speech and Debate Team.

Mr. Carano also was a Democratic state representative for the 59th District and regional director to Gov. Ted Strickland. He is currently an Austintown Township trustee.

The couple enjoy spending time at Hollywood Gaming and watching their grandchildren compete in sports.

The Caranos’ celebration will continue later this summer when the entire family travels to Florida.
