Fitch High School will sell tickets for Friday’s football game at Hudson on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. in the South Circle Ticket Booth.

Tickets also are available at Aardvark Sportswear, 5329 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown. Friday’s game begins at 7 p.m.

Canfield selling football tickets

Canfield High School is selling individual football tickets and season passes at the Athletic Office.

Season tickets cost $80.

Tickets for Friday’s game against Louisville cost $7 for adults and $4 for students.

Newton Falls team plans 50th reunion

NEWTON FALLS

Newton Falls High School will celebrate the 1968 team which won the Trumbull AA championship.

On Sept. 7-8, 35 surviving members of that team (21 players, three coaches and six cheerleaders) will be honored.

Doc Edwards, ex-Tribe manager, dies at 81

SAN ANGELO, Texas

Doc Edwards, a major league catcher who went on to manage the Cleveland Indians for three seasons in the 1980s, has died. He was 81.

His death in San Angelo was announced by his family through longtime friends. Other details were not disclosed.

Edwards spent more than a half century in baseball. He succeeded Pat Corrales as manager of Cleveland, where in 1962 he began his major league career as a player. He managed the Indians for the 1987-89 seasons, finishing with a record of 173-207. Earlier, he was a coach for Cleveland, as well as Philadelphia and the New York Mets.

He played five years in the big leagues, mostly with Cleveland and Kansas City. He also played for the New York Yankees and Phillies. He batted .238 for his career, with 15 home runs and 87 RBIs.

Howard Rodney Edwards was born in Red Jacket, West Virginia. His nickname came from his time as a Navy medic.

Redskins ink Peterson, De’Veon Smith

ASHBURN, Va.

The Washington Redskins have signed four-time All-Pro running back Adrian Peterson.

The team announced the deal Monday after meeting with Peterson. Jamaal Charles and Orleans Darkwa also visited the Redskins the past two days after several injuries at the position, with the team opting to sign Peterson and Howland graduate De’Veon Smith.

Peterson, 33, joins his fourth team as he enters what would be his 12th NFL season. The 2012 MVP is 12th all-time in rushing with 12,276 yards and needs 37 to pass Jim Brown.

The former Minnesota Vikings star split last season between Arizona and New Orleans, playing six games for the Cardinals and four for the Saints and finishing with 529 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Smith played in five games for the Miami Dolphins as a rookie in 2017. He caught three passes for 27 yards.

Bills rookie QB Allen to start against Bengals

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y.

Bills rookie quarterback Josh Allen is getting his chance to secure the starting job in Buffalo’s preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

Allen will make his first start of the preseason in a home game against the Bengals, the team announced on its Twitter account.

Allen has gone a combined 18 of 32 for 176 yards and two touchdowns in a little over three-plus quarters of preseason action. Buffalo traded up five draft spots to select the 22-year-old with the No. 7 pick in the draft out of Wyoming.

Bills coach Sean McDermott has taken what he’s called a “calculated” approach in Allen’s development behind returning backup Nathan Peterman and offseason free-agent addition AJ McCarron. McCarron’s status is murky after he hurt his throwing shoulder against Cleveland.
