Ursuline standout Harris commits to Pitt

Youngstown

Ursuline girls basketball standout Dayshanette Harris has verbally committed to the University of Pittsburgh. The announcement was made on Saturday.

The decision came prior to the start of her senior year. Harris averaged 24.6 points, 6.4 assists, five rebounds and four steals last season.

Harris was a first-team All-Ohio Selection in Division II and was the All-Inland District Player of the Year for the 2017-18 season.

Football tickets are on sale at the Superintendent’s Office, located at 9091/2 Milton Blvd. from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

The cost for reserved season passes for five home games are $40. Ten-game passes for varsity sports are available for adults for $50 and students for $30. Family passes cost $300.

Senior citizen passes are available for those 65 years of age or older, retired, and a resident of Newton Falls. Those with senior citizen passes get into all home games at no charge.

The first football game is scheduled for Friday at Waterloo. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Snedeker still leads rained out Wyndham

GREENSBORO, N.C.

Brandt Snedeker held a three-stroke lead Saturday in the Wyndham Championship when the third round was suspended because of severe weather.

Snedeker was 16 under for the tournament with 11 holes left in the round at the final event of the PGA Tour’s regular season.

Brian Gay was 13 under through 12 holes, and Trey Mullinax, Keith Mitchell, C.T. Pan and D.A. Points were another stroke back at varying stages of their rounds.

Thirty players were still on the course when play was halted during the mid-afternoon with a threat of lightning. Organizers chose to resume the round at 8 a.m. today.

Salas takes LPGA lead; Park, Young are 2 back

INDIANAPOLIS

Lizette Salas shot an 8-under 64 on Saturday to take a two-shot lead over Sung Hyun Park and Amy Yang after the third round of the Indy Women in Tech Championship.

The 29-year-old former Southern California player hasn’t won on the LPGA Tour since 2014. She took the lead with a birdie on the par-4, 16th — after Park hit her approach into the water en route to a double bogey.

Salas was at 21-under 195 at Brickyard Crossing. She shot a 69 in the second round.

Park had a 66 as she chases her third win this season and tries to reclaim the world’s No. 1 ranking.

Yang shot 65. Defending champ Lexi Thompson was five shots back after playing 27 holes in 10 under Saturday, posting rounds of 68 and 64.

Kurt Busch steals spotlight at Bristol

BRISTOL, Tenn.

Kurt Busch stole the spotlight from his younger brother Saturday night at Bristol Motor Speedway to grab an overdue short-track victory.

Busch won for the first time this season but sixth on the 0.533-mile bullring he once dominated. But that was before younger brother Kyle Busch learned his way around the place.

Kyle Busch triggered a 15-car accident just two laps into the race. He fell two laps off the pace, came back to race Martin Truex Jr. for second, and moved Truex out the way late in the race.

As Kyle Busch was tending to his wounded race car, older brother Kurt battled Stewart-Haas Racing teammate Clint Bowyer for the lead. Kurt Busch was relentless on the restart and got his Ford to the front, then Kyle Busch spun to bring out a ninth caution.

Kurt Busch had a good restart but Kyle Larson, on fresher tires, was desperately trying to catch him for the win. Kurt Busch held him off and Larson, winner of the Xfinity Series race on Friday night, finished second in his bid for the Bristol sweep. Kyle Busch wound up 20th.
