The Youngstown Area Community Concert Band played in Austintown Park on July 24.
Director Joe Pellergrini led the band as they played from 7-8:30 p.m.
“This band is composed entirely of volunteers,” Pellergrini said. “We get our funding from shows like this and other donations.”
Though the event was expected to be rained out, the concert was able to be fully preformed.
Ironically, as Pellergrini said, the theme they prepared for the event was water.
Each composition the band played related in some way to water, though Pellergrini said they were all substantially different from each other.
“We have great musicians who play just for the love of playing,” Pellergrini said.
Mary Mattesyn, along with two of her children, James and Matteson Campbell, attended the concert.
Mattesyn said that they had just moved to town that day and it was their first trip to Austintown Park.
“Its a really great park,” Mattesyn said, “There’s so much to do. We didn’t have anything like this back home.”
Mattesyn said her boyfriend, George Hauman, played the tambourine in the YACCB, which is why they decided to come to the concert.
“We will definitely be back, this place is great.” she added.
Todd and Marian Blessing also attended the concert with their nine-month-old son T.J.
The Blessings said they loved the concert because it was a great way to go out and listen to live music in a place they could feel comfortable bringing their son.
“It’s really nice, honestly, we love it here,” Todd said.
The YACCB is a non-profit organization that has existed in Youngstown for 35 years.
