The Mahoning Valley Olde Car Club hosted its weekly Cruise Night at the Austintown Senior Center on Aug. 7.
The event, which takes place May 8 through Sept. 11, goes from 5 p.m. until dusk every Tuesday.
Rich Posivak, a former president of the MVOCC, said that the focus of the event is to raise money for local charities and enjoy the car’s and people.
“If you join this club you never stop talking,” Posivak said. “The whole line of us love to talk.”
According to Posivak, this is the fifth year the group has been holding the weekly event.
Each Cruise Night benefits a charity focusing on Hospice of the Valley and local children who are in need.
The MVOCC reached a milestone last year, according to Posivak, where they raised enough money over the years to buy a room for Hospice, totaling $50,000.
Posivak said that the group has also been able to add to the number of children they helped each year, raising it from three to five.
“We enjoy doing this cruise, everyone who comes out comes out because they love it,” Posivak said, “All of us enjoy working here.”
During the event the Senior Center opens its doors to participants to sit inside in the air conditioning.
“The senior center here in Austintown is a great place for a cruise, they can go inside sit down and get something good to eat,” Posivak said.
The center also sells food to people who come to the Cruise Night event, the proceeds of which benefit the center according to Jim Henshaw, senior center director.
“We have employees who come and cook the food, its always been a successful night with the Cruise Nights,” Henshaw said.
During the Cruise Night every week, participants enter a 50/50 raffle which benefits local charities.
DJ Thomas John also plays during each event and registration is $3 per night.
