Farm to host festival

COLUMBIANA

Lamppost Farm, 14900 Market St., will host its Hop Harvest Festival from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.

The free, family-friendly event will feature hayrides, disc golf, bull-chip bingo, yard-game tournaments, live entertainment, samplings of Birdfish Brewing Co. brews and more. Cob-oven pizzas and grilled meats will be available for $10 per serving.

The farm store will be open during the event so participants can shop for grass-fed/pastured meat and poultry products, Lampost signature T-shirts and works by local artisans.

Penn State Extension to host program

NEW CASTLE, PA.

The Penn State Extension will host a Dining with Diabetes program from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 4, 11, 18 and 25 at the New Castle YMCA, 20 W. Washington St. An informational session will be hosted from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 28.

The program is for adults with diabetes and pre-diabetes and their families to discuss healthy food choices for people with diabetes and present healthy versions of familiar foods.

A culinary instructor will conduct food demonstrations at each class of proper cooking techniques for items such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, artificial sweeteners, reduced-fat products, and herbs and spices. There also will be information given to help manage diabetes. Cost of the program series is $5.
