YSU basketball to host fifth annual Wine Taste

Youngstown

The Youngstown State men’s basketball program will hold its Fifth Annual Wine Taste on Oct. 2 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at The Lake Club in Poland.

Individual reservations are available for $65 per person, and a table of 10 costs $550 per table. The event include unlimited pours, multiple tables of different wines paired with appetizers, meat and cheese table and party favors.

The program also will include silent and live auctions to benefit the men’s basketball program.

Keller takes top spot at Barrington

Aurora

Ken Keller of Boardman took the boys 17-22 portion of a Barrington Collegiate Preview at Barrington Golf Club in Aurora on Monday.

Keller won with a 4-over 76, three strokes ahead of Derek Miller of Garrettsville.

Anthony Graziano of Girard finished tied for fifth with three others after shooting an 86. Nick Braydich of Struthers also shot an 86.

Nicholas Hough of Youngstown finished ninth with a 90, and Zachary Jacobson of Poland came in 10th with a 95.

On the girls side, Emily Koehler of Vienna finished tied for ninth with a 9-over 81. Rachel Russell of Niles was the only other local in the tournament. She finished 17th with a 92.

49ers bring in veteran RB Morris for depth

SANTA CLARA, Calif.

Coach Kyle Shanahan says the San Francisco 49ers are bringing in veteran Alfred Morris to provide depth at running back while they deal with injuries at the position.

Morris rushed for 2,888 yards and 20 touchdowns during his first two seasons with the Washington Redskins. The move won’t become official until he passes a physical.

The 49ers are dealing with injuries to their top-two running backs. Jerick McKinnon suffered a calf injury Sunday and is expected to be out at least a week. His backup, Matt Breida, separated his shoulder against Dallas on Thursday and could miss the entire preseason.

Anthony signs 1-year deal with Rockets

Houston

Carmelo Anthony has signed a one-year, $2.4 million deal with the Houston Rockets.

Anthony was traded from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Atlanta Hawks last month before the Hawks released him.

Houston general manager Daryl Morey announced the signing Monday and the Rockets posted a picture on social media of Anthony signing his contract.

The Rockets hope the 34-year-old will help them contend for their first title since 1995. They lost to the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference finals.

Ex-girlfriend sues Bills star LeSean McCoy

LeSean McCoy’s ex-girlfriend is suing the Buffalo Bills running back for failing to protect her after she was bloodied, beaten and had $133,000 worth of jewelry stolen during a home invasion last month.

Delicia Cordon also alleges in a lawsuit filed in Fulton County, Georgia on Friday that McCoy would “often brutally beat his dog,” and would also “aggressively, physically discipline and beat his young son.”

Without blaming McCoy for playing a role in the home invasion, Cordon accuses him of breaching his duty to protect her because he owned the home. She also says McCoy “permitted a hazardous condition to exist” by installing a new security system and cameras and denying her access to arm the system.

Details of the lawsuit were first reported by WKBW-TV in Buffalo.

A phone and email message left with McCoy’s lawyer, Don Samuel, was not immediately returned.

Police in Milton, Ga., are still investigating and have not identified a suspect.
