Region’s manufacturing might put on proud display

Historically, the Mahoning Valley has long enjoyed a solid reputation for its manufacturing talent and grit. And though the behemoth steel mills that once lined the banks of the Mahoning River have long ago disappeared, the same resilient talent and grit remain steadfastly in place.

The latest proof of that manufacturing prowess came late last month, when a growing Andrews Avenue manufacturer displayed its wares for the entire nation and its president to behold.

City Machine Technologies, a Youngstown manufacturer of electromagnets for the steel and scrap industries, was chosen by representatives of the U.S. Department of State as Ohio’s entry in last month’s Made in America Showcase of products at the White House. We commend CMT for besting thousands of other companies throughout the Buckeye State for the singular honor.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to be one of 50 companies both big and small showcasing what America can make when we roll up our sleeves and work hard,” said company founder Michael J. Kovach. “America was built on the manufacturing industry, and it’s great to see it’s alive and well today.”

And, we might add, it’s great that U.S. leaders continue to take notice of the contributions of the Valley’s still-robust manufacturing sector to the nation’s overall economic health.
