Library to host ‘Stitches in Time’

Salem Public Library hosts a program once every month for anyone who enjoys thread and yarn handwork such as knitting, cross stitching, crocheting and embroidery. The program, “Stitches in Time,” takes place on the second Wednesday of each month in the library’s Quaker Room. It is open to the public and free to attend. The next class will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Those attending should bring a project to work on. Registration is not required. For information, call the library at 330-332-0042.

Learning institute begins fall semester

The Mahoning Valley Lifelong Learning Institute will begin its fall semester with Chautaugua at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 30 at Ohio Living Park Vista. Dr. Greg Ferro will present President Teddy Roosevelt and the turn of the century; Felicia Zavarella Stadelman, European expressionists; and hear turn of the century music with the Harmony Quartet.

The fall semester will continue with various topics including yoga, Italian architecture, zoo animals, the Holocaust, interior design and more. Classes will take place Tuesdays and Thursdays. Registration is required in advance by visiting MVLLI.org or by calling Ohio Living at 330-746-2944, ext. 1553.

The semester will conclude with a weekend workshop from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 7, dinner included; from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 8, lunch included; and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 9, brunch included. Cost to attend is $50 per person, and the deadline to register is Nov. 1. To register, call Ohio Living at 330-746-2944, ext. 1553. Space is limited.

Dollar General donates to support literacy

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently awarded the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning county a $2,500 grant to support literacy through the library’s Summer Discovery Program, “Libraries Rock!”
