The Canfield library, in conjunction with the American Legion Post 177 in Canfield, have designated two parking spaces adjacent to the handicapped parking spaces to be reserved for veterans. These spaces are marked clearly with signs from Post 177.
Library Executive Aimee Fifarek met with representatives from Post 177.
“We are happy to designate parking spots at the Canfield Library in support of our veterans,” she said. “We hope that making the parking spots available will encourage our community’s veterans to visit their library more often.”
The Canfield American Legion Post 177 kicked off a “Veterans Only” Parking sign campaign during an official ceremony hosted by the City of Canfield on Memorial Day. The American Legion noted that this public service campaign is aimed at highlighting the Legion’s values of patriotism, a strong national security and support for all veterans.
“Veterans are the backbone of our country,” said Michael Kubitza, Commander of the Canfield American Legion Post 177. “We wanted to show all veterans recognition and appreciation with this parking sign campaign. We believe our work makes a difference and we want to invite the public to join us.”
Since the campaign started, 30 businesses and churches have shown their support of the program with these signs.
The program encourages local business establishments to erect the “Veterans Only” parking sign.
“It not only recognizes our area veterans by establishing a preferred parking spot, but is also another way of cementing the reputation of our area as a ‘veteran friendly’ location,” said Frank Micchia, Post 177 Veterans Sign Committee Chairman.
