Butterflies and Hope Memorial Foundation will host a kick-off event to launch their virtual mountain climb fundraiser at 11 a.m. next Monday at the Youngstown Community Health Center (ONE Health Ohio), 726 Wick Ave, Youngstown. Parking will be at the Ursuline lot across the street. The event will include a ceremonial butterfly release to honor the foundation, a one-mile walk to kick off the virtual mountain climb, a performance from the Harambee Youth Group, food, music and more. The Butterflies and Hope Founder and CEO of ONE Health Ohio, Ron Dwinnells, MD., recently climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro to increase awareness for children suffering from adverse childhood experiences. To raise money for this cause, the organization will host a virtual mountain climb fundraiser, Climbing for Kids, where the community is invited to “virtually” climb Mount Kilimanjaro next Monday through Aug. 17. The goal is for each climber to walk 50,000 steps over a five-day period to virtually summit the mountain. As participants reach milestones along their climb, they will get to see pictures and videos of the mountain at that particular elevation. Participants will track their steps through a wearable device (Fitbit, Garmin, etc.) or cellphone and manually enter them into a virtual platform. Chestnut Ridge Church of God, 7215 Chestnut Ridge Road, will distribute free and brand-new tennis shoes to all school-age students in kindergarten through 12th grade from 4 to 6 :30 p.m. next Monday and from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 14. Students must reside in or attend school in Hubbard, Masury, Brookfield, Liberty, Girard, Sharon, Hermitage, Farrell or West Middlesex. One pair per student. Students must bring a parent or guardian and show proof of residency.

Knights of Columbus President Charity Fund will sponsor a golf outing Sunday at Olde Dutch Mill Golf Course at Lake Milton. Proceeds benefit Delaney Yeager, a young girl with Down Syndrome, hypothyroidism and a heart deformity. Registration takes place from 7 to 7:45 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8. New Middletown Village will host its National Night Out on Tuesday. NNO is a nationwide crime-prevention initiative that brings out citizens and police in a relaxed atmosphere. Sutliff Museum is announcing its exhibit that will run through August. The exhibit is “Being a Victorian: Hygiene History of the 19th Century,” and explores the hygiene habits of men and women in the late 1800s. There also is an exhibit of “The Original S’mores” ornaments. Each ornament shows a snowman made of marshmallows depicting various holidays, occupations, milestones of life, and more. Suzie’s Dogs & Drafts, 34 N. Phelps St., Youngstown, in cooperation with the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley, is sponsoring a “Donate a Hot Dog” campaign to help provide food to the area’s homeless population. Throughout the year, Suzie’s customers can donate a hot dog for the hungry and write a note of support. Donations will be matched dog-for-dog by the restaurant. On the second Wednesday of every month, employees will provide a meal and bring all the notes for the overnight residents and meal visitors at the Rescue Mission. The goal is food for the body and encouragement for the spirit. The project is inspired by the shooting death last November of Colin Brown. Brown worked in the restaurant industry, managing newly opened restaurants and helping get them off the ground. He was a volunteer with the Common Wealth Kitchen Incubator in Youngstown, was known for his pay it forward attitude and always helping those in need.

Trumbull County GOP will host its second annual Reagan BBQ and Golf Outing Sunday at Bronzwood Golf Course, 9645 Kinsman-Pymatuning Road, Kinsman. Mahoning Valley Historical Society will host a History to Go bus tour to three sites related to U.S. President James A. Garfield on Saturday. Cost is $70 for MVHS members, $75 for nonmembers and includes motor coach transportation from the Tyler History Center, admission to all sites and a boxed lunch. Poland Historical Society will host a bus trip to Pittsburgh on Sept. 19. The trip includes the Heinz Memorial Chapel, a tour of the Strip District and downtown, a two-hour cruise on the Explorer riverboat and more.
