‘Infinity War’ opens with record $250M, passing ‘Star Wars’

A whole lot of superheroes added up to a whole lot of ticket sales. The superhero smorgasbord “Avengers: Infinity Wars” opened with predictable shock-and-awe, earning $250 million at the box office over the weekend and edging past “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” to set the highest opening weekend of all time.

“Infinity War,” which brings together some two dozen superheroes in the 10-year culmination of Marvel Studio’s “cinematic universe,” also set a new global opening record with $630 million even though it’s yet to open in China, the world’s second-largest movie market. It opens there May 11.

Rounding out the top five at the box office were: “A Quiet Place,” $10.7 million, second place; “I Feel Pretty,” $8.1 million, third place; “Rampage,” $7.1 million, fourth place; and “Black Panther,” $4.4 million, fifth place.

Lawrence attends arts event in Ky. hometown

LOUISVILLE, Ky.

Actress Jennifer Lawrence attended an arts ceremony co-hosted by her namesake foundation in her hometown of Louisville.

Lawrence was a presenter at Saturday’s annual Awards in the Arts event honoring local groups and artists.

The event was co-hosted by the Louisville-based Fund for the Arts, the Jennifer Lawrence Foundation and Churchill Downs.

Lawrence’s foundation supports a variety of Louisville-area charities.

Former ’Glee’ star Lea Michele is engaged

NEW YORK

Actress and singer Lea Michele has announced her engagement to boyfriend Zandy Reich with a social media photo of a diamond ring on her finger and the word “Yes.”

A representative of the former star of “Glee” said Saturday that Reich, president of clothing company AYR, proposed with a 4-carat elongated radian cut ring he helped design. They’ve been dating more than a year.

Michele is gearing up for a tour with fellow “Glee” alumnus Darren Criss.

The duo will hit the stage together and solo, performing songs from Broadway, “Glee” and original songs from their recent solo albums.
