Ken Conklin, president of the Upton Association, recently welcomed new trustee Bonnie Williams to the board of the Upton Association. Beginning in May, every Tuesday at 9 a.m., weather permitting, volunteers are needed for the Upton House Gardens. Contact Carol Olson for information at 330-856-6120.

BBB scholarship deadline is Tuesday

The Better Business Bureau’s Ethics & Integrity Scholarship program for Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties is accepting applications until Tuesday.

The mission of the program is to provide information and develop resources that promote and build awareness of ethical business practices and marketplace trust to consumers and businesses.

The program provides up to five $1,000 one-year, post-secondary scholarships to graduating high school seniors who are employed by or are the children or grandchildren of owners or employees of accredited businesses. Buhl Park to host spring tea

HERMITAGE, PA

Buhl Park will host Julia’s Spring Tea from 1 to 3 p.m. May 6 at Buhl Timblin Casino, 715 Hazen Road. Doors open at 12:45. The event will feature traditional afternoon tea cuisine, including tea sandwiches with various fillings, nut breads, scones, sweets, and more. It also will include tea from the signature loose leaf tea shop, Special-Teas, Etc. of Volant, Pa. Sarah Clark, harpist, will be on hand to provide light entertainment and there will be basket and silent auctions. Tickets are $25 and may be reserved by calling Annie at 724-981-5522. Reservation deadline is Tuesday.

Food Drive will take place May 12

The National Association of Letter Carriers, Branch 385, Youngstown, will host the 2018 Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on May 12. Leave a nonperishable food donation in a bag by your mailbox May 13 and they will be delivered to local food pantries.

The need for donations is great. Currently, 49 million Americans — 1 in 6 — are unsure where the next meal will come from. Sixteen million children are hungry and approximately five million seniors over age 60 are food insecure, with many who live on fixed incomes often too embarrassed to ask for help.

Trumbull GOP women meet, elect officers

Trumbull County Republican Women’s Club recently met at JD Posthouse Restaurant for a lunch. Nominations of the 2018-19 officers were voted on by members.

President for the upcoming year will be Cathy Lukasko. Roberta Shields will remain first vice-president and Gail Drushel will remain second vice-president. Lori Hineman will take the position of treasurer and Dorothy Davis will become the secretary in the upcoming year.

The guest candidate speaker for the event was Mike Gibbons running for U.S. Senate. Installation of these officers will be at the luncheon Thursday at Giorgio's in Niles.

Trumbull Mobile Meals needs volunteers

Trumbull Mobile Meals is a community-based service agency dedicated to providing a home-delivered meal service to Trumbull County residents who are homebound.

Due to a large increase in senior hunger in the community, volunteers are desperately needed to deliver meals in Niles, Cortland, Howland, Warren, Vienna, Girard, Liberty and McDonald areas.
