Rotary learns about Williams Syndrome

Karen Guerriero gave a talk on Williams Syndrome to the Struthers Rotary Club at a recent meeting. Guerriero’s daughter Emily faces the ongoing challenges resulting from the condition. The club learned of the various complications that occur with WS, including developmental delays, heart problems, anesthetic reactions and hearing sensitivity. Guerriero invites the public to a Williams Syndrome awareness event, which will take place from noon to 4 p.m. May 5 at Struthers Parkside Church, 110 Poland Ave. The event will feature dancing, face painting, crafts, a 50-50 raffle, basket auction and more. Information about WS can be found at www.williams-syndrome.org. Above, from left, are Jennifer Johnson, club president; Guerriero; and Pastor James Berkebile, host Rotarian. Johnson holds a book that will be donated in Guerriero’s name to the Struthers Elementary School library in appreciation for her presentation.
