PITTSBURGH

Jose Osuna hit a three-run homer to lift Pittsburgh to a victory in Game 2 and a split with Detroit. Osuna opened the scoring with a shot to center field in the second inning. In the first game, Nicholas Castellanos had four hits and a key home run. Chad Kuhl (3-1) tied a career high with eight strikeouts in six innings in the second game. He allowed three runs, six hits and one walk. Boyd (1-1) gave up four runs and seven hits in 32/3 innings. Leonys Martin hit a two-run homer in the fifth to get the Tigers within 4-3. He also led off the opener with a homer. Candelario tripled and scored on Castellanos’ single in the fourth. Pittsburgh’s Francisco Cervelli had three hits and a career-high six RBIs, including a three-run homer. Corey Dickerson also had three hits for Pittsburgh, and Colin Moran homered. Daniel Stumpf (1-0) retired all four batters he faced for his first major league win. Shane Greene earned his fourth save in six opportunities. Jameson Taillon (2-2) allowed seven runs and 10 hits in 32/3 innings.

Red Sox 4, Blue Jays 3

TORONTO

Mookie Betts homered twice and drove in three runs as Boston snapped its season-high three-game losing streak with a win over Toronto. Red Sox starter Eduardo Rodriguez (3-0) gave up three runs and six hits in 62/3 innings. Closer Craig Kimbrel earned his sixth save of the season. Aaron Sanchez lasted six innings for the Blue Jays, giving up just three hits and two runs, while striking out eight. Yangervis Solarte hit his sixth home run of the season.

Yankees 7, Twins 4

NEW YORK

Didi Gregorius homered for the fourth straight game and added two RBIs to his major league-leading total, sending New York past Minnesota. Tyler Austin hit a three-run shot and made a sparkling defensive play at first base to stop a Twins rally. Miguel Sano launched an early two-run homer for the Twins. Chad Green (2-0) got five outs for the win. Lance Lynn (0-2) allowed six runs and seven hits over 32/3 innings in his fourth start for the Twins. Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton each had a sacrifice fly for New York. Gleyber Torres got two hits and scored twice.

Rays 8, Orioles 4

BALTIMORE

Joey Wendle had three hits and two RBIs, Adeiny Hechavarria homered and Tampa Bay beat former teammate Alex Cobb and Baltimore. The game marked the return of left-hander Jonny Venters following a six-year absence and four major elbow operations, including three Tommy John surgeries. The 33-year-old Venters used four pitches to retire Chris Davis — the only batter he faced. Cobb (0-3) exited in the fifth inning after allowing five runs and 10 hits.

Mariners 4, White Sox 3

CHICAGO

Mike Zunino homered and scored twice to back Felix Hernandez in Seattle’s victory over Chicago. Chicago’s Yoan Moncada hit his first career leadoff homer. Nelson Cruz added three hits, including two RBI singles. Hernandez (3-2) scattered three runs and seven hits over six innings. Edwin Diaz tossed a perfect ninth for his 10th save in as many chances. Shields (1-3) went six innings, allowing four runs and six hits.

Braves 5, Reds 4

CINCINNATI

Prized prospect Ronald Acuna Jr. singled and scored the tying run in the eighth inning of his big league debut, and Atlanta went on to beat Cincinnati. Ozzie Albies homered for Atlanta and scored the go-ahead run on Johan Camargo’s second double of the game. Dan Winkler (1-0) pitched a perfect eighth and A.J. Minter worked the ninth for his first career save. Kevin Shackelford (0-1) took the loss. Joey Votto’s hit a two-run homer for the Reds.

Phillies 5, Diamondbacks 3

PHILADELPHIA

Aaron Altherr hit a go-ahead three-run homer, Jake Arrieta outpitched Zack Greinke and Philadelphia beat Arizona. Arrieta (3-0) allowed three runs — one earned — and four hits in seven innings. Greinke (2-2) gave up five runs and nine hits in six innings, striking out nine. After Greinke fanned Rhys Hoskins, Altherr hit a 2-1 slider over the bushes behind the wall in straightaway center field to give the Phillies a 5-3 lead.

Nationals 15, Giants 2

SAN FRANCISCO

Trea Turner got five hits, Matt Adams homered and drove in six runs, and Washington beat San Francisco to end a four-game losing streak. Andrew Stevenson had two doubles, two singles and four RBIs. Max Scherzer (5-1) did his part, striking out 10 in six innings. Turner also scored twice and drove in two runs. Scherzer allowed two runs and five hits.

Marlins 8, Dodgers 6

LOS ANGELES

Trevor Richards outpitched Clayton Kershaw just months removed from working as a substitute elementary school teacher, and Miami took advantage of a wild outing from the Dodgers’ ace.
