Let’s Go Timberdoodlin’

What: An odd-looking bird named the Woodcock, or Timberdoodle, is known to reside at McGuffey Wildlife Preserve. Join our attempt to witness the amazing mating flight of the male.

Where: McGuffey Wildlife Preserve, 4448 McGuffey Road, Coitsville.

Daffodil Show

When: Friday, 3-5 p.m., and Saturday, 8-10 a.m., entries accepted; show is Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

What: Enter your prize bloom in the show, delight in the historic Daffodil Meadow and stroll through Fellows Riverside Gardens’ narcissus collection.

Where: Davis Center

Botanical Mornings Trolley

When: Friday, 9-10 a.m.

What: Take the trolley from FRG through historic Mill Creek Park to Daffodil Meadow as we look for signs of spring along the way.

Where: Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinely Ave., Youngstown.

Cost: $7

Frog Hoppin’ Hike

When: Friday, 8-9:30 p.m.

What: Join naturalist Marilyn Williams to listen, look, catch and release in one of the “froggiest” places in the MetroParks – Vickers Nature Preserve.

Where: Vickers Nature Preserve, 9260 Akron-Canfield Road, Ellsworth.

Cost: Free

Details: Flashlights suggested. Boots required. Easy difficulty, 1 mile.

Wildflowers Galore

When: Saturday, 2-3:30 p.m.

What: Spring wildflowers bloom before trees leaf out and stop the sunshine. Poland Municipal Forest’s (Poland Woods) 250 acres of wet woods is probably the premier wildflower spot in our area, featuring a profusion of bluebells and other beauties.

Where: The forest, College Street Lot, Poland.

Cost: Free

Details: Easy difficulty, 2 miles.

BIOBLITZ

When: Saturday-Sunday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

What: A bioblitz is an intense period of biological surveying to record all the living species within a designated area. Help us bioblitz Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center for the 2018 City Nature Challenge.

Where: The Center, 16146 Daniel St. NE, Minerva.

Cost: Free

Details: Scheduled and self-guided activities with instruction will be available. No registration required.
