YOUNGSTOWN

Tony Corradetti was elected president of the newly formed Greater Youngstown USBC Bowling Association.

Other officers are David Bregar, vice president, and Russ Turner, sergeant-at-arms.

Shirley Carson, William Moxley, Donna Kincaid, Roseanne Winner, Kevin Randolph, Robert Kincaid, Richie Manners and Troy Wilson were elected directors.

The association is now seeking an association manager. Applications are located in the bowling centers. For more information, contact the GYBA office at 330-530-8217. Deadline is June 1.

Poland to host track meet at middle school

POLAND

The Poland High School athletic department will host the 105th Middle School County Track and Field Championships on Monday at Poland Stadium.

Field events are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. and running events are set for 5 p.m.

Adult ticket prices are $5 a piece and student are $3. No passes will be accepted at the gate.

GAINESVILLE, Fla.

Former Florida receiver Antonio Callaway failed a drug test at the NFL combine, a mistake that could damage his draft status.

A person with knowledge of the situation says NFL teams were made aware of the result Tuesday. The person spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the league does not release that information publicly.

It was the latest misstep for a talented but troubled receiver who was once considered a lock to be a first-round draft pick. Now, some teams surely will take the 21-year-old Callaway off their draft board. Failing a drug test at the combine, a place prospects know they’re going to be tested, is widely considered one of the more head-scratching results of the pre-draft process.

Callaway was suspended all of last season as part of an investigation into felony credit card fraud. He also was cited for marijuana possession in May 2017, stopped by police while riding in a car with a career criminal, and was part of a Title IX investigation in 2016 that centered on an alleged sexual battery. He testified during that case he was high on marijuana during the incident and was later found not responsible for the alleged misconduct.

Oxlade-Chamberlain carried off on stretcher

England midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be in doubt for the World Cup after sustaining a leg injury while playing for Liverpool in its 5-2 win over Roma in Champions League on Tuesday

Oxlade-Chamberlain was carried off on a stretcher in the 18th minute at Anfield after injuring his right leg in a tackle on Aleksandar Kolarov.

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp said it was “probably a really bad injury” and acknowledged that Oxlade-Chamberlain’s season was over, even before he has undergone any scans to assess the damage.

Moos says jab at Meyer, Harbaugh was a joke

OMAHA, Neb.

Nebraska athletic director Bill Moos says his comment about coaches Urban Meyer of Ohio State and Jim Harbaugh of Michigan “running a little bit scared” following coach Scott Frost’s arrival in Lincoln was “a bit tongue in cheek.”

In an appearance at an Omaha Press Club luncheon earlier Tuesday, Moos said Frost would need time to turn around the Cornhuskers, who were 4-8 last season, but better days are ahead.

Moos added, “You’ve got Urban Meyer and Jim Harbaugh thinking, ‘We better put a little more into that Nebraska game coming up.’ And that’s the way we want it. They’re running a little bit scared right now. And they won’t admit it. We’ll leave that at that.”

Asked in the evening if he stood by his comment, Moos wrote in a text to The Associated Press, “A bit tongue in cheek. Meant to point out that the competition is aware that there’s a renewed energy at Nebraska and we aim to get back in the hunt.”
