HUBBARD

Hubbard High School will host its annual senior awards ceremony at 6 p.m. Thursday in the high school’s auditorium. Hubbard Schools Superintendent Raymond Soloman will present 77 awards to seniors.

YWCAs take a stand against racism

The YWCAs of Youngstown and Warren are taking part in “Stand Against Racism” from Thursday to Sunday. The YWCA’s mission has been to eliminate racism and empower women.

YWCA Youngstown will host students from Youngstown City Schools’ Visual and Performing Arts Program for “A Harlem Renaissance Experience,” from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at St. John Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave., Youngstown.

The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be available courtesy of the Bitonte College of Health and Human Services.

YWCA Warren, 375 N. Park Ave., will host “Race: Let’s Talk About It,” from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Participants will share a meal, enjoy a performance from YWCA’s Girls Leadership group, and participate in guided small group conversations. This event also is free but registration is required by calling 330-373-1010 by today.

Spring Fling planned to benefit Ed Port

Mr. Darby’s Emporium, 8574 Market St., will open from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday for its Spring Fling. The event aims to to raise thousands of dollars for Ed Port of Austintown. Port has type 1 neurofibronatosis. Between the ages of 7 and 19, he had 21 major surgeries. From 2011 to 2013, he had eight additional surgeries and he is in need of one again.

After the first surgery, insurance costs increased 100 percent. Mr. Darby’s and all 107 vendors are stepping forward and hope to make a difference. The store will be collecting new and slightly used shoes for funds2org, a group that helps organizations collect shoes and buys them for shipment to third-world nations. They also will be offering special discounts and free hors d’oeuvres, wine and drinks.

Suicide Awareness Walk set for Saturday

Survivors of Suicide 11th annual Suicide Awareness Walk will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Trumbull County Courthouse gazebo, courthouse square.

Families, friends and the public are invited to attend and urged to bring photographs or signs to highlight the loss of our loved ones to suicide. Submit names of those who died by suicide to cgrizinski@helpnetworkneo.org, for the part of the program that will have the names read aloud.

Troll Hole Museum to host scavenger hunt

The Troll Hole Museum, 228 E. Main St., will host an all-day scavenger hunt beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday and ending at 5 p.m. or when all the trolls have been returned to the museum.

Participants who return with a completed map will be entered into the grand prize drawing for an Android tablet, certificate for an overnight stay at Holiday Inn Express or Best Western of Canton and more.

The event is sponsored by the Troll Hole Museum, Grumpy Troll Coffee, Alliance Chamber of Commerce, Mad Dogs Crazy Cats and Enchanted Threads Boutique.

YMCA hosts annual healthy kids day

The YMCA will host a free community event to inspire more children to keep minds and bodies active all summer long. Healthy Kids Day, the Y’s national initiative to improve families’ health and well-being, features games, healthy living workshops, arts and crafts and more to motivate and teach families how to develop healthy routines at home.

Adele Taylor will speak about the importance of keeping their bodies and minds active when out of school.
