Police: Boy, 13, kills 11-year-old brother

STREETSBORO, OHIO

Authorities say a 13-year-old boy has shot and killed his 11-year-old brother in Northeast Ohio in what police describe as an apparent “premeditated act.”

Streetsboro police say officers were called to a home around 9:30 p.m. Monday. The 11-year-old died at a hospital.

Police say the 13-year-old has been charged with aggravated murder in Portage County Juvenile Court. Police say the gun used in the slaying was stolen from his grandfather’s home.

Police have not said what prompted the teen to shoot his brother.

Bush is ‘responding, recovering’ in hospital

HOUSTON

A family spokesman says former President George H.W. Bush is still “responding and recovering” as doctors treat him for an infection that’s spread to his blood.

Bush has been hospitalized since Sunday, a day after attending the funeral of his wife, Barbara.

Family spokesman Jim McGrath issued the update Tuesday.

Bush has a form of Parkinson’s disease along with a history of pneumonia and other infections. He’s being treated at Houston Methodist Hospital.

Gang member to be executed for killings

HUNTSVILLE, Texas

Attorneys for a Texas inmate wanted the U.S. Supreme Court to halt his scheduled execution for the shooting deaths of a 5-year-old girl and her grandmother during a birthday party 10 years ago outside a Fort Worth apartment.

Former Fort Worth street gang member Erick Davila was set for lethal injection Wednesday evening.

Lawyers for the 31-year-old Davila argue it’s improper for the elected Tarrant County district attorney to be involved in the case because she was the judge at Davila’s 2009 trial.

Davila was convicted of killing Queshawn Stevenson and her 48-year-old grandmother, Annette Stevenson.

Black woman golfer: It’s like we had targets on our backs

When she walks onto a golf course as one of the few black women on the links, Sandra Harrison fills with pride and hopes her play will dispel stereotypes and disarm her fellow players – who are often white and male.

What she felt playing at the Grandview Golf Club as a new member in her community could not have been more opposite, Harrison said. The 59-year-old retiree said she was traumatized, rattled and hurt after she said she and the group of black women she was playing with were run off the course before police were called when a white man claimed the women were playing too slowly.

“It was like we were playing with targets on our backs,” Harrison said. “What other reason could there be other than we were guilty of being black while golfing?”

No charges were filed.

Agency: Don’t sell Juul e-cigs to kids

WASHINGTON

Federal health officials on Tuesday announced a nationwide crackdown on underage use of a popular e-cigarette brand after months of complaints from parents, politicians and school administrators.

The Food and Drug Administration issued warnings to 40 retail and online stores as part of a monthlong operation against illegal sales of Juul to children. Investigators targeted 7-Eleven locations, Shell gas stations and Cumberland Farms convenience stores as well as vaping shops.

FDA regulators also asked manufacturer Juul Labs to turn over documents about the design, marketing and ingredients of its product.
