Women pay to replace stolen cardboard cutout of bistro owner in Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt.

Two women who took a life-sized cardboard cutout ad of a Vermont restaurant owner from an airport have sent a check to the bistro to pay for replacement costs.

Leunig’s Bistro in Burlington said April 17 that they received a written apology and a $350 check to cover the cost of the stolen cutout of bistro co-owner Bob Conlon.

The women identify themselves as “Leunig’s #1 Fans” and say they apologize for the inconvenience they caused the team.

The restaurant pledged a new Bob Conlon cutout would soon be back at Burlington International Airport. Conlon says he was glad the suspects paid for the cutout.

The letter says the women hope to eat dinner at the bistro in the future.

Connecticut town considers cameras to catch dog scofflaws

NEW CANAAN, Conn.

A Connecticut town is considering installing cameras at a park to catch dog owners who don’t clean up after their pets relieve themselves.

New Canaan Parks and Recreation Chairwoman Sally Campbell tells Hearst Media Connecticut the plan to install cameras was just one part of an effort to address the park’s dog excrement problem. She says police are also stepping up patrols near parks.

Parks Commissioner Francesca Segalas says some cameras would be placed in the parking lot to record license plates, while others would be hidden along trails so police could match pet owners with their vehicles and issue a fine.

Not everyone is on board. Some said they were uneasy about being watched while on a trail, while others wonder how long the video would be kept.

Headless doll triggers major police operation in southern Germany

BERLIN

An apparent headless body that prompted a major police operation in southern Germany has turned out to be a doll.

Police in Baden-Wuerttemberg state say a passer-by spotted what appeared to be a clothed but headless corpse covered in blood lying by a stream in Remstal, near Stuttgart, late April 16.

Officers cordoned off the suspected crime scene and firefighters were called to retrieve the body, which was lying in an inaccessible place.

In a statement April 17, police said that only once firefighters reached the site were they able to determine that it was, in fact, a doll.
