Kool & the Gang to play Stambaugh

Kool & the Gang will come to Stambaugh Auditorium on Aug. 10 for an 8 p.m. concert.

Tickets are $40, $55, $75 and $90 and go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. at stambaughauditorium.com, by phone at 330-259-0555 and at the Stambaugh box office, 1000 Fifth Ave.

Kool & the Gang has influenced the music of three generations with hits that include “Celebration,” “Cherish,” “Jungle Boogie” and “Summer Madness.” The funk and R&B legends have two Grammy Awards and have performed continuously for 43 years, longer than any other R&B group.

Founded by Robert Bell, who was born in Youngstown, the act has a widely-sampled catalog. Portions of its songs have found their way into tunes by the Beastie Boys, Jay-Z, Madonna and Janet Jackson and on many film soundtracks.
