Youngstown man punches cop, wins free ride to jail

YOUNGSTOWN — Reports said a Lansdowne Boulevard man late Sunday was arrested for assault on a police officer after an officer was punched in the throat and face while answering a domestic violence call.

Officers were called just after 11 p.m. to a home in the 1700 block of Lansdowne Boulevard, where reports said a woman told them her son, Dillon Byers, 25, threw her against the wall when she refused to give him money.

Reports said Byers was listening to officers and when one told him his mother did not have to give him money, he punched the officer twice.

Byers was taken into custody on charges of assault on a officer and domestic violence.

The officer was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital to be examined for his injuries.
