BINGO

St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church fundraising committee will present its Spring Fling Bingo Matinee from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at The Byzantine Center at the Grove, 3801 Shady Run Road, Youngstown. The event will feature a hot lunch buffet, a chocolate fountain, eight games of bingo, a basket raffle with more than 50 prizes, a bingo ball drop, 50-50 raffles and free door prizes. More than $1,000 in cash prizes will be awarded. The event is open to the public, and the price of $30 per person includes the buffet lunch, eight games of bingo and a free bingo dauber. CLASSES

Nami Mahoning Valley will present its Spring Family To Family course, a free 12 week education class for families living with mental illness. It is taught by NAMI-trained individuals who have lived with a person who has serious mental illness. The course offers information about diagnosis, medications, confidentiality, community resources, communication skills for families in crisis and more. The class takes place at 6 p.m. at 201 Wick Ave., Youngstown, in the First Presbyterian Church building. The course runs every Tuesday through June 26 and fills up quickly. FESTIVALS

Simply Slavic will host its eighth annual Simply Slavic festival from noon to midnight June 16 on Federal Plaza East. Organizers are seeking authentically Slavic retail, craft, fine art and food vendors for its marketplace and food tents. There is space for 15 food vendors and 10 marketplace vendors. Austintown Relay for Life purse bingo will take place at the Maronite Center, 1555 S. Meridian Road, Youngstown, on Friday. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the first round starts at 7. Survivors of Suicide 11th annual Awareness Walk will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The walk, which is held in memory of loved ones who have died by suicide, will take place at the Trumbull County Courthouse Gazebo, Courthouse Square, Warren. Sutliff Museum is announcing its new exhibit that will be through August. The exhibit is “Being a Victorian: Hygiene History of the the 19th Century,” and explores the hygiene habits of men and women in the late 1800s. Suzie's Dogs & Drafts, 34 N. Phelps St., Youngstown, in cooperation with the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley, is sponsoring a “Donate a Hot Dog” campaign to help provide food to the area’s homeless population. Throughout the year, Suzie’s customers can donate a hot dog for the hungry and write a note of support. Donations will be matched dog-for-dog by the restaurant. On the second Wednesday of every month, employees will provide a meal and bring all the notes for the overnight residents and meal visitors at the Rescue Mission. The goal is food for the body and encouragement for the spirit. The project is inspired by the shooting death last November of Colin Brown. Brown worked in the restaurant industry, managing newly opened restaurants and helping get them off the ground. He was a volunteer with the Common Wealth Kitchen Incubator in Youngstown, was known for his pay it forward attitude and always helping those in need.
