Ryan to intervene in Mahoning engineer labor dispute

YOUNGSTOWN — The members of Teamsters Local 377 employed by the Mahoning County Engineer’s office planned to strike today but agreed to postpone the action at the request of U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan.

Two mediation sessions on April 9 and April 20 did not bring the two parties together, according to a news release sent out by the Teamsters.

The Teamsters’ issues concern seniority and job protection, the release said.

“The major disputes with the Engineer do not involve wages or wage increases,” the release said.

Ryan of Howland, D-13th, hopes to bring the parties together for further negotiations.

Teamsters Local 377 includes 44 employees from the engineer’s office. Those employees perform road maintenance that includes plowing snow and filling potholes.
