Library to host book discussion group

Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will host a book discussion group at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The chosen book is, “Miller’s Valley” by Anna Quindlen. Copies of the book are available to borrow. Registration is not required. For information, call the library at 330-332-0042.

Sip & paint event

Friends of the Mahoning River will host a Sip ’n Paint from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the B&O Station, 530 Mahoning Ave. The cost is $25 to complete a 16- by 25-inch heron painting. One beverage is included. Proceeds will support projects on the Mahoning River. Call Susan at 330-718-3469 to register.

Church to host Stand Against Racism event

Stand Against Racism 2018: The Harlem Renaissance Experience! will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at St. John’s Church, 323 Wick Ave. Stand Against Racism is a signature campaign of YWCA USA to build community among those who work for racial justice and to raise awareness about the negative impact of institutional and structural racism in communities. This campaign is one part of a larger national strategy to fulfill the mission of eliminating racism. The Harlem Renaissance Experience offers stories of struggle and hope told by the students of Chaney’s visual and performing arts program. Discussion will follow.
