CHICAGO

A Chicago woman involved in a beating of a mentally disabled teen that was shown on Facebook Live has been sentenced to three years in prison.

Twenty-five-year-old Tanishia Covington learned her sentence Friday after pleading guilty to a hate crime, intimidation and aggravated battery. Covington apologized in court while the victim looked on.

She's the second of four co-defendants to plead guilty in the case that received national attention because it involved a white victim and four blacks who taunted him with profanities against white people. Her sister, Brittany, who livestreamed the video, was sentenced to four years of probation after pleading guilty in December. The cases against the two other co-defendants are pending.

Judge won't order Flint bottled water program to resume

FLINT, Mich.

A federal judge has denied a request to order Michigan officials to resume distribution of free bottled water in Flint.

The Flint Journal reports that U.S. District Judge Judith Levy sided with the state, which announced an end to the program April 6. Tests show Flint is far below the federal action level for lead as it recovers from a lead-contaminated water crisis.

Some residents and Mayor Karen Weaver say bottled water should remain available until home water lines are replaced, a job that will last until 2020.

A resident filing the lawsuit said lead in his water tested far above the federal action level. The judge wasn’t swayed, since the man isn’t living in the home.

Missouri governor charged over charity donor list

ST. LOUIS

St. Louis prosecutors on Friday charged Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens with a felony for using a charity donor list for his 2016 political campaign, adding to the woes of the first-term Republican governor who responded by calling it another effort to “smear” him.

The charge of tampering with computer data is in addition to an earlier charge alleging Greitens took and transmitted a nonconsensual photo of a partially nude woman with whom he had an extramarital affair in 2015. The new charge accuses Greitens of disclosing the donor list from The Mission Continues in 2015 without permission from the St. Louis-based charity that Greitens founded.

The Associated Press first reported in October 2016 that Greitens’ campaign obtained a list of top donors to The Mission Continues and raised nearly $2 million from donors who were on it.

Greitens has been facing increasing pressure to resign – including from fellow Republicans – since a special House investigative committee’s report released April 11 that detailed allegations from the woman with whom he had the affair.

High holiday: Pot fans join 420 smoke-out

Thousands of marijuana enthusiasts flocked to San Francisco's Golden Gate Park for the annual April 20 high holiday that culminated with the crowd sparking up at 4:20 p.m.

The gathering Friday is the first since California legalized marijuana on Jan. 1. The festival is a celebration of the number 420, stoners' code for smoking marijuana.

A small, informal gathering that began several years ago has blossomed into a full-blown festival of corporate sponsors and commercial booths selling smoking devices, T-shirts and food.

Five Northern California men say they created the code in 1971 while high-school classmates, planning to meet at 4:20 p.m. to smoke.
