Woman in critical condition after Fowler Township crash

FOWLER TOWNSHIP — A Farmdale woman, 22, is in critical condition today after being seriously injured in a rollover crash on Everett Hull Road at state Route 193 at 8:52 p.m. Thursday, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reports.

The highway patrol is not releasing the woman’s name pending notification of relatives.

The woman was traveling east in a 2015 Ford Focus and drove through a stop sign, losing control, sliding off the left side of the road and striking a ditch, going airborn and landing in a field, overturning multiple times.

The county 911 center reports that the only call reporting the incident came from a safety communications system in the woman’s car that alerted the 911 center that the vehicle had experienced an emergency.

The woman did not answer verbal requests from the service or from the county 911 operator after the operator received the automated call.

The 911 center call taker could hear a car’s turn signal or hazard lights “clicking,” and the woman could be heard moaning, according to a recording of the 911 call provided to The Vindicator.

The car’s emergency service gave the 911 center GPS coordinates, which allowed the 911 center to dispatch the Fowler Township Fire Department to the scene.

About five minutes into the call, the 911 call taker could hear a siren, and Fowler Township first responders arrived less than a minute later.

The woman was incapacitated by the crash, removed by first responders from the vehicle and taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The vehicle was severely damaged.

The woman was not wearing a seat belt, and the crash remains under investigation.
