Warren orchestra in spring concert

The Warren Philharmonic Orchestra’s spring concert – “Spirits of Spring!” – will feature a star soloist, Beethoven’s most exhilarating symphony and a trio of opera overtures.

The concert begins at 3 p.m. Sunday at Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic St. NE. The orchestra will perform ‚ãSymphony No. 7 by Beethoven; “Knoxville: Summer of 1915” for soprano and orchestra by Samuel Barber, with soloist Kisma Jordan, soprano; “Merry Wives of Windsor Overture” by Otto Nicolai; “Dawn Over the Moscow River Prelude” by Modest Mussorgsky; and “Ruslan and Ludmilla Overture” by Mikhail Glinka.

Susan Davenny Wyner is music director and conductor.

Soprano Kisma Jordan, a Detroit native, has won praise from The New York Times for her “shimmering soprano voice.” She has performed with the Detroit Symphony, the New Jersey Opera and the Lyric Opera of Chicago.

Local audiences may remember that Kisma literally stopped the show with her portrayal of Micaela in Opera Western Reserve’s 2016 production of “Carmen.”

Friends of the Orchestra are sponsoring an upscale garage sale April 27-29 to help fund the 2018-19 season at 1337 Springwood Trace SE, from noon to 4 p.m. each day. Go to warrenphilharmonic.org to view photos of item.
