Mohip says race is factor in public education

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown City Schools CEO Krish Mohip said he disagreed with comments attributed to YCSD Superintendent Joe Meranto by the Youngstown Chapter of the NAACP.

The NAACP took issue with comments in The Vindicator in which Meranto suggested that poverty and white flight, not race, were a primary cause of the failure in the city schools.

“Mr. Meranto’s comments are his own and do not represent those of myself or the district,” the CEO said. “That view is contrary to my philosophy of education and to the belief system I’m working to instill in this school district.”
