Schiavoni attacks DeWine during Youngstown stop

YOUNGSTOWN — State Sen. Joe Schiavoni, a Democratic candidate for governor, criticized Republican gubernatorial frontrunner Mike DeWine for not taking enough action to fight the opioid epidemic and to clean up corruption in Columbus.

During a press conference at the Mahoning County Courthouse, Schiavoni said of DeWine: “I don’t hear him talking a lot about his plan for opioids. It’s always just putting a little Band-Aid on here and there.”

Schiavoni of Boardman said the state needs to use 10 percent of its rainy-day fund, which has more than $2 billion in it, to fight the opioid crisis by paying for addiction services, mental health and more money for law enforcement.

DeWine is scheduled this afternoon to speak at the Choffin Career & Technical Center about addiction, recovery and workforce development.
