DETROIT

Victor Martinez homered for the first time since August, and the Detroit Tigers snapped a five-game losing streak with a victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Martinez hit a two-run shot in the second, and Jeimer Candelario hit a tiebreaking triple in the fifth for Detroit. Francisco Liriano (2-1) allowed two runs and five hits in five innings. He struck out seven and walked three. Baltimore managed only one hit off four Detroit relievers. Shane Greene pitched a perfect ninth for his third save. Trey Mancini hit a solo homer for the Orioles, who lost their fourth straight. Andrew Cashner (1-2) allowed three runs and seven hits in six innings.

Blue Jays 11, Royals 3

Blue Jays 5, Royals 4, 10 innings

TORONTO

Luke Maile singled down the right-field line with the bases loaded in the 10th inning, and the Toronto Blue Jays walked off with a victory over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night to sweep a rare doubleheader at Rogers Centre. Toronto won the opener and has swept all three doubleheaders at its retractable-roof stadium, which opened in 1989. The Blue Jays loaded the bases with one out in the tenth. Kevin Pillar singled off Brian Flynn (0-1) before Aledmys Diaz walked and Randal Grichuk was hit by a pitch. Maile then drove the second pitch he saw from Flynn down the right-field line, driving in his third run of the game and handing the Royals their seventh straight loss. Tyler Clippard (2-0) worked a scoreless 10th for his 50th career victory. Danny Duffy allowed two hits in six scoreless innings, striking out eight in his longest outing of the season, before Toronto rallied off Kansas City’s bullpen.

Rangers 7, Rays 2

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA.

Matt Moore allowed an unearned run over seven innings in his first start against his former team and the Texas Rangers beat the Tampa Bay Rays. Moore (1-3) struck out six with five hits and two walks. The Rangers acquired the left-hander from the Giants in December. Daniel Robertson had the lone run off Moore, scoring on shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa’s throwing error in the third. Adrian Beltre, Ronald Guzman and Shin-Soo Choo had two RBIs each for the Rangers. Kiner-Falefa had four hits, including a double. Beltre hit his second sacrifice fly of the game and Guzman had a two-run double off Yonny Chirinos (0-1) as the Rangers went ahead 5-1 in the fifth. Guzman has hit safely in his first four big league games since being recalled Friday from Triple-A Round Rock.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Nationals 5, Mets 2

NEW YORK

Gio Gonzalez improved to 11-1 at Citi Field, Trea Turner kept Washington in gear all game and the Nationals beat the New York Mets. A day after topping the Mets with an eighth-inning rally from a five-run deficit, the Nationals never trailed. Bryce Harper put them ahead early with a sacrifice fly and slumping Ryan Zimmerman hit a late RBI single for insurance. The Mets, whose 12-3 start had matched the best in team history, lost back-to-back games for the first time under new manager Mickey Callaway. Turner doubled twice, singled and walked, scoring two runs and stealing his major league-leading eighth base.

Brewers 2, Reds 0

MILWAUKEE

Eric Thames hit a two-run homer to back a three-hitter from Junior Guerra and three relievers, lifting the Milwaukee Brewers over the Cincinnati Reds. Reds starter Sal Romano (0-2) had a two-hit shutout going before Lorenzo Cain walked and Thames sent the first pitch he saw over the wall in right for his team-leading sixth home run. Thames was back in the lineup after leaving Sunday’s game with a left groin strain and sitting Monday. Guerra limited Cincinnati to a single and three walks over 52/3 innings, striking out seven. Dan Jennings (2-0) finished up the sixth, Jeremy Jeffress retired three straight in the seventh and Josh Hader pitched the final two innings for his second save despite allowing a two-out double in the ninth to Tucker Barnhart.

Phillies 5, Braves 1, 10 innings

ATLANTA

The Philadelphia Phillies finally came through in the clutch, getting a two-out, two-run double from Rhys Hoskins in the 10th inning and beating the Atlanta Braves. Hoskins had struck out three times when he faced Jose Ramirez (0-2) with two runners aboard. On a 2-2 pitch, the Phillies cleanup hitter lined a slicing drive against the wall in the right-field corner, clearing the bases. Maikel Franco added another two-run double before the inning was done. Hector Neris (1-1) pitched a scoreless ninth for the win.

Cardinals 5, Cubs 3

CHICAGO

Adam Wainwright outpitched Tyler Chatwood in frigid conditions at Wrigley Field, helping the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs for their fifth consecutive victory. Matt Carpenter had two hits and three RBIs for St. Louis in the first meeting of the season between the longtime rivals. Each starting pitcher struggled with control, but Wainwright (1-2) deftly navigated his way through five effective innings. The 6-foot-7 right-hander allowed an unearned run and four hits, struck out five and walked four.

INTERLEAGUE

Marlins 9, Yankees 1

NEW YORK

J.T. Realmuto homered and drove in four runs in his season debut after coming off the disabled list, leading Jarlin Garcia and the Miami Marlins to a blowout of the sloppy New York Yankees.

Garcia (1-0) gave up one hit in five shutout innings, overcoming five early walks to win for the first time as a starter. Miguel Andujar doubled off the base of the left-center wall with one out in the fifth off Garcia.
