GM, Lordstown Seating Systems file official warning of layoffs

LORDSTOWN — General Motors and Lordstown Seating Systems have filed an official Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, WARN, Act with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

General Motors announced last week it would lay off 1,500 employees at the GM Lordstown Assembly Complex when it cuts the second shift in June. The layoffs will take effect June 18, according to the WARN notice.

The plant, which produces the Chevrolet Cruze, a compact car, currently has 3,000 employees.

Lordstown Seating Systems, which makes seats for the Chevrolet Cruze, believes at this point it will have 83 layoffs at its facility.

Because of the second shift elimination at GM Lordstown, Lordstown Seating Systems has to eliminate its second shift.
