Warren PD probing child endangering complaints

WARREN — Police investigated child-related complaints Friday and Saturday, charging Raionna S. Cofield, 23, of Peace Avenue Northwest with misdemeanor child endangering after her child, 4, was found walking in the street by herself at 2 a.m. Saturday.

Cofield’s grandfather told police he received a phone call from a friend informing him of the child being found in the street near Peace Avenue.

The grandfather said the child was not injured and he had taken her to his house. He said it was not known how long the child had been in the street.

Cofield was at the grandfather’s home on Linda Drive Northwest police arrived, police said.

She told police she was “ready to go to jail” for leaving her child alone and was taken to jail. She will be arraigned in Warren Municipal Court later today, according to court records.

Police also investigated a complaint from an Arlington Avenue Northwest man who is paralyzed on one side Friday afternoon who said he saw his daughter, 2, with a straw in her mouth that his girlfriend uses to snort heroin.

The man said he could see heroin residue on the straw.

The victim said he called his mother and his case worker after his girlfriend left. His mother took the straw from the house, he said. The report did not mention whether the child was OK.

Police advised the man to file charges against the woman at Warren Municipal Court.
