Foster to miss offseason program

SANTA CLARA, Calif.

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster won’t participate in the offseason program while he tends to legal matters related to his domestic violence charges.

The 49ers said in a statement Sunday that Foster’s future with the team will be “determined by the information revealed during the legal process.” San Francisco begins its offseason program Monday.

Foster was charged Thursday with felony domestic violence after being accused of dragging his girlfriend and punching her in the head, leaving her with a ruptured eardrum, authorities said.

Foster was also charged with felony possession of an assault weapon and misdemeanor possession of a high-capacity magazine. If convicted on all charges, He faces up to 11 years in prison.

Eagles cut Worley after arrest

PHILADELPHIA

The Philadelphia Eagles have released cornerback Daryl Worley, hours after he was arrested.

NFL Network reported that Worley was arrested Sunday morning near the team’s practice facility and that police used a Taser on him after he became combative. The report also said a gun was found in Worley’s vehicle.

The team first issued a statement that it was investigating Worley’s arrest and later announced he was cut.

The Super Bowl champions traded wide receiver Torrey Smith to the Carolina Panthers for Worley in March. They also acquired defensive end Michael Bennett in a trade with Seattle. Bennett was arrested last month on a charge that he injured a paraplegic woman as he tried to get onto the field after last year’s Super Bowl to celebrate with his brother.

Worley, a third-round pick in 2016, started 25 games in the past two seasons for the Panthers.

OU president expected to recover from stroke

University of Oklahoma President David Boren is expected to make a full recovery after having a minor stroke minutes before the unveiling of a statue honoring former Sooners football coach and Cardinal Mooney graduate Bob Stoops on Saturday.

The school sent the update in a statement Sunday. It said Boren is expected to be released from the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City in the coming days.

The 76-year-old Boren was Oklahoma’s governor and a U.S. Senator before becoming the university’s president in 1994.

Stoops was honored in front of a large crowd hours before Oklahoma’s spring game, and Boren was one of the speakers. After Boren finished, paramedics made their way over and talked to him near the podium where Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione was speaking. Castiglione implored the fans to pray and told them the paramedics were taking precautions.

The school said Boren had discomfort and dizziness and he was transported to the hospital, where tests determined that he had a stroke. He was in good spirits and eating with his family by Saturday evening.

Man City clinches Premier League title

MANCHESTER, England

Manchester City won the Premier League title without even playing on Sunday when nearest challenger Manchester United surprisingly lost 1-0 at home to last-place West Bromwich Albion.

It was City’s third title in seven seasons and easily its most convincing, with Pep Guardiola’s team 16 points clear and still having five games to play this season. City’s other two Premier League triumphs, in 2012 and ’14, were sealed on the final day.

Second-place United dragged the title race out for at least another week by winning 3-2 at City last weekend, only to gift the trophy to City by losing to a team that is destined for relegation and had just one league win since August.

Guardiola might not have seen Jay Rodriguez’s 73rd-minute winning goal at Old Trafford because he was due to be playing golf with his son instead of watching the match.
