City employee surrenders to police on theft charges

YOUNGSTOWN — A city employee accused of the theft of 30 steel road plates from the city’s wastewater department surrendered to police Monday at the Mahoning County jail.

Jeffrey Campana, 40, faces felony charges of theft in office, theft and unauthorized use of property for the theft of the plates which are valued at $1,000 each.

The plates went missing between October and late March, according to a police report. They were sold at a Wilson Avenue scrap yard on the East Side.

Magistrate Anthony Sertick set Campana’s bond at $7,500. Campana has a preliminary hearing April 23.
