Islamic art expert to lecture at YSU
YOUNGSTOWN
Sheila Blair, professor of Islamic and Asian Art at Boston College, will give a free presentation on “When Writing Becomes Art: A Key Aspect of Islamic Culture” at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the President’s Suite in Kilcawley Center on the campus of Youngstown State University.
The presentation is sponsored by the Center for Islamic Studies.
Blair is author or co-author of 17 books and more than 200 academic articles, and has won many international awards in her field. She teaches about all aspects of Islamic art, from the earliest to modern times. She and her husband colleague, Jonathan Bloom, served as artistic consultant to the three-hour documentary “Islam: Empire of Faith,” shown nationally on PBS.
