Union Elementary had their kindergarten concert on March 8 in the Poland Seminary High School auditorium.
Music teacher Dana Emery directed the students for the concert. All the songs went together as a cohesive story revolving around different hats.
Emery said she aimed to teach the students about how to put on a production, use proper singing techniques and getting their singing voice in their head. She also wanted to get the students singing well.
The show featured several songs with small sketches in between the songs to further the story of the show.
Each of the children played the parts of hat makers, each with a special hat, except for one child, who did not have a hat at the beginning of the show.
The children sang different songs about specific hats, such as a song based on sports for a baseball cap and a patriotic song for a child in an Uncle Sam hat. The student without a hat got one by the end of the show. The children then talked about how a hat is a hat and does not define them. They then sang a song regarding that sentiment.
Emery chose to have the children perform this show because it has a nice message and she had success with it in the past.
