Library to host “A Little Live Music” event

The Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will host “A Little Live Music” from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Adult Reading Room on the upper level Sunday. UHS to host fashion show Sunday

Ursuline High School will host its All That Glitters Is Green and Gold Fashion Show at 12:45 p.m. Sunday at The Lake Club. The cost is $55 and includes a sit-down luncheon. The fashion show will feature styles from Ivory and Birch and Dillards. Hair and make-up will be provided by Magnolia’s On the Green Salon. Sponsorship opportunities are available. WFMJ-TV 21 news anchor Leslie Barrett will be the host. Guests may participate in a ticket auction as well as a 50-50 raffle. Proceeds will benefit the art room renovation and the adopt-a-student program. Reservations may be made by calling 330-744-4563.

Library to present gardening program

Kary Shively and Peg Zeleznik, Ohio State Extension master gardener volunteers, will present the program, “What is a Prairie Garden?” from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday in Salem Public Library’s Quaker Room, 821 E. State St. The program will explain why home gardening has taken on a role that transcends the needs of the gardeners as well as discuss how to choose and prepare a site, select suitable plants, and maintain the home prairie garden. Reading festival will take place Saturday

The 12th annual “Plant the Seed to Read” children’s book festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Fellows Riverside Gardens, Mill Creek MetroParks. This year’s event is “Reading Rocks!” It will be filled with authors and illustrators, storytellers and readers, giveaways and more. Admission is free and sign language interpreting will be available. Stroller parking is available, however, due to limited space, strollers are not permitted in the Davis Center during the event.

The Junior Civic League is accepting applications from high school seniors for the 2018 scholarship award. The deadline to apply has been extended to Monday. Scholarships are $1,500 each and are non-renewable. Since its inception, the Junior Civic League has awarded more than $650,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors from public or private high schools in the Mahoning Valley. Students are selected on the basis of academic achievement, financial need, community involvement, and personal qualities and strengths. Montessori School to host fundraiser

Montessori School of the Mahoning Valley will host a pasta dinner fundraiser from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Poland United Methodist Church, 1940 Boardman-Poland Road. Cost is $8 for adults and $6 for children. Proceeds benefit the school.
