C.H. Campbell Elementary School students and their families were transported to the wilds of the jungle during the school’s annual Spring Fest with lots of games, food and fun March 16.With the theme ‘It‘s a Jungle Out There,’ students and their families could visit a jungle, complete with snakes and lizards, in the converted school library.
As attendees entered the transformed library, they walked through the jungle with a waterfall and vines, to sit and watch Outback Ray perform a show with snakes, lizards, a chinchilla, a bird and a rare armadillo.
The evening also offered bounce arounds in the gym, a photo booth, face painting, temporary tattoos and a Chinese auction, which featured 62 baskets donated from local businesses and classroom baskets with items donated from students and their families.
“Each classroom picked a theme and students donated items related to that theme to put in the basket. Our PTO also helped round out some of the baskets. We also have more than 60 baskets which were donated by local businesses and members of the community and numerous families also donated a basket to the Chinese auction,” C.H. Campbell Elementary School principal Travis Lavery said.
A fast pitch booth was also set up with Canfield Local Schools Resource Officer Steve Garstka using a radar gun to record the speed of the ball.
Spring Fest is a fundraiser for C.H. and, according to Lavery, proceeds from the event will go to fund various expenses for the school, including student learning areas.
“This year, money from the festival will go toward creating fun student learning areas. We would like to create fun, comfortable areas where students can go to read and do their work in a more relaxed atmosphere,” Lavery said.
Along with all the fun and games, Cocca’s Pizza was served in the cafeteria. Numerous PTO volunteers helped in all aspects of the evening, from selling raffle tickets to taking and selling tickets at the door. Several C.H. staffers also donated their time to help with the festival.
Canfield High School National Honor Society members also helped with the event and Canfield High School cheerleaders volunteered at the face painting and temporary tattoo booth.
C.H. Campbell Elementary School PTO chair Cassie Whitman chaired the event, while Meshelle Navarro served as decorating committee chair.
