Slow Art Day at the Butler is Saturday

The Butler Institute of American Art will take part in International Slow Art Day on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will be the second-consecutive year the museum at 524 Wick Ave. participated in the event that simply encourages visitors to look at art slowly.

Admission and limited parking are free.

Visitors are asked to look at five works of art for 10 minutes each and then meet to talk about their experience.

At the Butler, staff and docents will distribute lists of selected artworks and answer questions or facilitate discussions that visitors may want to engage in. The goal is to focus on the art and the art of seeing. No art expertise is necessary.

“The Butler participates in International Slow Art Day to help make new art lovers in our little part of the world, and to make long-time art lovers stop and take it slow …to possibly experience the works in a new way and discover something that they may not have realized before,” said Wendy Swick, public relations director of the museum.
